How I heard about Woman’s Co-op is when I was in the homeless shelter. Even when I was in jail I found out my sister was involved in the Co-op. Why I joined the Co-op was to be able to complete my goals that I wanted to accomplish. I wanted to be able to know more women in my community and to help them. Read more

The summer of 2009, my husband at the time and I moved from Martin to Battle Creek and bought what should have been considered a fixer-upper house. We fought all summer with code compliance. Part of the stimulus plan states that for every 30 houses a city tears down, they get 8 million dollars. We’d fix things and the inspector would show up and find something else wrong. Read more
